Urgent Volunteer Opportunities


Sign Up for a Foodbank Field Trip
  • Tour our warehouse to learn about how we make a difference in our community
  • Visit one of our program sites
    • Picnic in the Park - Distribute lunches to kids (weekdays in the summer from 11:30am-1:00pm)
    • Brown Bag Program - Distribute bags of food to seniors (weekdays from 8:00-10:00am)
    • Healthy School Pantry/Kid's Farmer's Market - See our volunteers teaching kids about nutrition (weekdays after school)

Organize a Grocery Store Food and Funds Drive

Collect food and money donations at local grocery stores. This can be done any day/any time as long as the volunteers are able to get the food back to the warehouse before 3:00pm Monday – Friday or can store the food in your vehicle/garage until the next business day.  
  

Santa Barbara Elite Cheer team collected 200 pounds of food and $400 in 3 hours! This provided 3,450 meals!







Warehouse Volunteers


Warehouse Project/Volunteer Manager
  • Work with our warehouse manager to determine the volunteer needs of the warehouse
  • Develop a plan to sort food
  • Train and oversee warehouse volunteers
  • Weekdays - flexible schedule
    Volunteer Shopper:
      • Package food for our non-profit partners to pick up
      • 8:00am - 12:30pm one day per week (Monday - Friday)
      • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, bend, and stand for 4 hours
      • Long-term volunteers needed


    Brown Bag Warehouse Assembly:
      • 9:00-11:00am one day per month (1st Wed/Mo)
      • Package food for Brown Bag Program
      • Must be able to stand for 2 hours, bend
      • Long-term volunteers needed
    Assemble Produce Seed Packets and Grow Kits for Foodbank

    Our “Grow Your Own Way Program” teaches kids how to grow their own produce! We need volunteers to help assemble everything these kids need into Grow Kits (seeds, potting soil, instructions, etc.).

    This can be done at our warehouse M-F between 7:00am and 3:00pm. Or, you can take the supplies home, work on the project on your own time, and bring the seed packets/grow kits back when you are finished.

    We are looking for volunteers who can commit to helping with this project every month on a long-term basis.

     
    Pick up Bread at Local Stores for the Foodbank

    • 8:00 - 11:00a.m one day per week (Monday - Friday) and deliver it to the Foodbank using your own vehicle.
    • This is a long-term position

    Deliver Food to those in Need

    • 12:00-2:00pm one day per month (1st Wed/Mo)
    • This is a long-term position

     
    Volunteer Coordinator Assistants

    • Recruit volunteers and place them in positions 
    • Give tours of our warehouse
    • Update our database
    • Visit program sites


    Community Outreach

    • Docent - conduct warehouse or program site tours to educate the community about what we do - flexible days and times
    • Man our booth at community events - educate people about the Foodbank, sign up volunteers, and collect donations




    Distribute Food to Kids this Summer or Help Coordinate Activities for the Kids - (Picnic in the Park Program)


    • Distribute meals to kids and engage them in fun activities from 11:00-1:00 one day per week (Monday - Friday)


     



    Harvest Produce (Back Yard Bounty Program)
     
    • Harvest produce at local farmer's fields or in neighborhood back yards
